QUESTIONS TO ASK A BREEDER

Here are the three most important questions to ask a breeder:

1.  Is the mother or father on the premises?

At LEAST one of the parents should be available for you to meet.  This dog should be outgoing and friendly.

2.
At what age do you breed your Cavaliers?

Do not purchase a puppy where one of the parents is under 2 years of age.

3.
What health testing do you do, and by whom?

At a bare MINIMUM, both FATHER AND MOTHER of the litter should have:

Board Certified Cardiologist clearance, in writing, for you and your vet. (Required and pre-certified for PARENTS of all puppies listed on this site.)

Board Certified Ophthalmologist clearance, in writing, for you and your vet.(Required and pre-certified for PARENTS of all puppies listed on this site.)

Regular Veterinarian's clearance for Patellar Luxation, in writing, for you and your vet.

All of these health tests should have been performed within the year.

Preferably, the FATHER AND MOTHER should also have:

Hip Dysplasia clearance by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
(ask the breeder to send you a link to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals website (http://www.offa.org) for both sire and dam -- if the hips passed, they will be listed on this website.)
